Important Information on Alimony Legislation and the NJ Family Collaborative Law Act
On September 10, 2014, the Governor signed into law the bills regarding Alimony and the Collaborative Law Act. The Alimony bill effectively gets rid of permanent alimony, replacing it with open durational alimony and creates a uniform guideline for determining the duration of alimony for marriages of less than 20 years in duration. For open durational alimony this means that there is a rebuttable presumption that alimony terminates at full retirement age .Links to the bills are below for your convenience.
