Alimony and Spousal Support
One of the most highly contested issues in a divorce case in New Jersey is the issue of alimony, also known as spousal support. Our team of Family Law attorneys has extensive experience in handling diverse issues that arise with respect to alimony and support in cases throughout the state of New Jersey. We appreciate that the issue of alimony is one that significantly impacts our clients’ lives and we zealously advocate for our clients’ interests.
In our more than forty years of experience handling Divorce Cases in New Jersey, our attorneys have negotiated settlements, advocated in mediation and/or arbitration and litigated matrimonial cases involving a myriad of alimony issues.
Our experienced attorneys understand that the question that most concerns our clients about alimony involves how much support will be paid and for how long. In New Jersey, there is no precise calculation or formula for how a Court will determine an award of alimony. Rather, the Court will consider a number of factors which include:
- The duration of the marriage;
- The age and health of the parties;
- The standard of living enjoyed during the marriage;
- The earning capacity and educational background of the parties; and
- The parental responsibilities for the children of the marriage.
We handle cases that involve the four different types of alimony permitted under New Jersey law (open durational, limited duration, rehabilitative and reimbursement) and are adept at handling alimony issues in various stages of the divorce process including pendent lite and post-judgment issues.
